GRADUATE RESEARCH

I am in my final year of graduate school at the University of California Santa Cruz in the Ocean Sciences department. My research focuses on oceanographic data collected by electronic tags deployed on northern elephant seals as part of the Costa lab at UCSC. This research approach allows us to both collect high resolution oceanographic data at a fraction of the cost of more traditional methods and provide unprecedented insight into the behavior and distribution of a deep-water predator in the remote northeastern Pacific.

We conduct our field work at Año Nuevo State Park where the Costa lab has been studying the population of northern elephant seals for decades. ​This work includes census surveys, identification and marking of known individuals, flipper tagging, and deployment and recovery of satellite tags.
